Carter’s Cobbler Shoppe, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Jeff and Lisa Carter, as a small boot and shoe repair shop. Quickly, it became the local destination for Bozeman residents and the foremost authority on boots! In 1994, I founded Carter's Boots and Repair in downtown Bozeman, initially operating out of a modest hole-in-the-wall shop. Since the age of 18, I have specialized in repairing and fitting high-quality, handmade boots, and my commitment to this craft has been unwavering. Over the years, I've expanded our offerings to include renowned brands such as Black Jack and Anderson Bean, along with accessories like Churchill gloves, Superfeet insoles, and an array of other products. Even though our store has expanded drastically since our modest start, our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction remains at the forefront of our business philosophy.
Since my birth in 1999, I have been raised in my father's cobbler shop. Over the years, I have actively contributed to expanding our lines of boots, handling most stitching and patching repairs, and even taking charge of building our current website. Looking ahead, in the next five years, the business will transition into my name, and I am committed to preserving and furthering my dad's legacy to the best of my ability.
In 1990, Jeff and I tied the knot and embarked on the journey of establishing what is now recognized as Carter's Boots and Repair in 1994. From the beginning of our business, I have been responsible for managing the financial aspects, handling books, and overseeing the store's bills. Until last year, my professional commitments extended to working full time as an 5th-grade English teacher at Belgrade Middle School. Following my retirement from that position, I now divide my time, dedicating two days a week to Carter's and the remainder of the week to teaching at a small country school.
I have worked for Carter's since I was 14 years old. I am a student at Bozeman High School. Despite having only one hand, I independently acquired skills in leatherwork, specializing in traditional Western-style carving and restoration since the age of 12. I honed my craft in the confines of my garage, entirely self-taught. One day, at the age of 14, while visiting Carter's to purchase leather, I received a job offer from Garrett and Jeff. Now, at 18, I continue to thrive in my role.
@ShopifyI started working at Carter's in January of 2022. Currently a full-time student at Montana State University pursuing a degree in Equine Science, I balance my academic commitments with part-time work at Carter's throughout the school year and transition to full-time during winter and summer breaks. Within my role, I am actively involved in updating the website and ensuring the administrative side of the store remains current. Additionally, I help customers find exactly what they are looking for, contributing to a positive and efficient shopping experience.
@ShopifyIn the summer of 2022, I started working at Carter's. Prior to joining the team, I completed various independent hand-stitching projects. Since stepping into Carter's, I've honed my skills and become adept at using sewing machines for a variety of repairs. In my role, I collaborate closely with Garrett to ensure all our repairs, excluding resoles, are skillfully completed. It's been a hands-on experience that has significantly broadened my expertise.
I joined the Carter's team in September 2023 while navigating my freshman year at Gallatin High School. My role at Carter's involves handling most of the calls, logging repairs, and assisting customers over the phone and in the retail space.
